Driven by an infinite curiosity for physics and materials, the young Italian studio OliveLab designs a new generation of amazing lighting in which design isn’t generated by formal needs but by the poetic use of light itself. The Delumina lamp magically changes colour and lets you vary the intensity of the light with a simple movement of the hand. The project is based on an incredible material, normally used in other fields of application, capable of interacting with the physics of light and modifying its behaviour. The Delumina pendant consists of two smoked grey glass discs stacked on top of each other, placed in front of the LED light source. The smaller of the discs is equipped with a unique filter that changes colour: this filter can reduce and stop the light waves according to its orientation. Using a rotating rod, you can vary the colour of the lower disc (the smaller of the two), going from transparency to total opacity, letting more or less light pass through, depending on your requirements. When you turn the black rod, the small glass disc gradually turns opaque to become completely black, the light slowly disappearing. The greater the transparent light area, the more intense the lighting. The more opaque the surface, the softer the light. The relationship with the object is a real experience for the user. Thanks to its design, the user can easily lower the light intensity via manual interaction that feels more like a magic trick than cold technological mastery. The line of the Delumina pendant is simple and pure: everything is essential, there’s no need to add superfluous details since the intention is to surprise with the material itself.
